Sabrina is a country with a population of 5.4 million people and a high mobile phone penetration rate of 156%. To run a country like Sabrina, there are many day-to-day issues that need to be handled by the relevant government agencies, such as dirty water coming from public water tanks, dead animals found on roads blocking traffic, floods in shopping malls, etc. Sabrina needs help from her people to report such occurrences to the authorities so that proper work can be done to rectify these situations quickly.

Hypothetical Scenario

Geraldine spots a dead bird lying on the pavement near her home. The bird is festering and giving off a stench. Worried about the spread of disease, she decides to inform the authorities about it. She contacts the local town council after a lengthy search for the phone number. To her irritation, she was informed that the pavement was under the management of the park agency and the town council was not responsible. She does another search and finally finds the contact information of the park agency staff. After quizzing her about the situation at length, the staff declares that diseased animals were the responsibility of the Animal Control agency, and hangs up

Geraldine is frustrated. She snaps a picture of the bird and uploads it onto the citizen journalism site of a local tabloid with the comment: “GROSS! GAHMEN DOES NOTHING AGAIN!” The picture goes viral and draws a flurry of criticism about lazy overpaid officials. Staff at the Animal Control agency feel helpless at the turn of events. No one informed them, and they would have rushed to the scene if they had known.


Residents are not aware of the relevant agencies or departments to contact for various issues. The process of searching for the contact numbers to call is tedious and takes too much time.


With the prevalence of messaging, image recognition technologies and mobile app usage, explore and develop applications that can help residents identify with the contacts to call and report such issues to the relevant government agencies.

One of the key industries that Singapore has been developing is MICE (Meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions). There are many events being held in the country throughout the year and how well the event organisers manage the events and the overall experience the delegates derived from the events would contribute to the overall success of the industry. However, as the frequency and number of events and attendees increases, the industry players specifically the event organisers are faced with new challenges in bringing good and seamless experience to the participants (attendees, sponsors, speakers and exhibitors).



With the number of events increases, event participants are faced with increased competitions from event organisers for their attention and participation.  Unfortunately, quite a number of events are of the same nature and it becomes difficult for the participants to decide which events to attend. In addition, they received these advertising through multiple online and offline channels providing duplicated information.

At the event, attendees are faced with unpleasant experience in long waits during on-site registrations, collection of event passes and the need to update inaccurate registration details. Though event organisers may have deployed many staff at the registration counters, the improvement in the attendees experience has been marginal and crowd control and human traffic movement management has not been smooth.

For exhibitions, during the visits attendees have to rely on printed materials to navigate around the exhibitions booths. They are not fed with real-time information and recommendation based on their location, their interests and time spent at various exhibitors’ booth to derive the best route to take. The attendees also do not receive good and relevant follow-ups after the events.


The Challenge

The challenge is to design a solution to overcome the above problems faced by the attendees and event organisers thus improving the overall attendees’ experience, increase re-participation rate and improve the organiser’s efficiency by deploying technologies and intelligence.

Challenge participants are free to use any technologies, programming platform and/or devices to design the solution. Teams are also encouraged to look into innovative use of technologies and competencies that would differentiate the offerings significantly.

TackThis aims to increase the number of channels and platforms that sellers can leverage on, and also to understand their businesses better for effective selling.

 Use TackThis APIs to build an application on TackThis platform to solve some of the problems stated below. You may also explore other applications that add unique value to TackThis users.

 1) Text-based selling

With the prevelance of text-messaging and social apps (e.g. Line, WeChat, Viber, Instagram, Whatsapp, Telegram, Twitter etc) in Southeast Asia, sellers are increasingly using such channels to communicate and collect orders from their customers.

However sellers are not able to track and manage orders or queries from these channels efficiently.

Sellers will also have to repost their new product offerings to these channels after uploading them to TackThis increasing their hassle.

 2) Analytics

As TackThis allows sellers to sell across multiple platforms, sellers are not able to effectively analyse how their traffic is being converted to sales, and also on areas where they can improve their cart abandonment.

3) Mobile App (Android)

Sellers currently do not have the means to launch their own retail mobile app on Google Play with TackThis shop and manage its content within the TackThis platform.

“How might technology help enhance health, fitness and recreation for persons with disabilities and their families in the community?”

Over 100,000 Singaporeans are living with a disability, the global numbers reported by WHO have expected 650 million. With advances in healthcare and living environment, many individuals with disabilities are living normal or near normal lifespan. It is important to enhance health, fitness and recreation for persons with disabilities as these activities are at the heart of our quality of life. Persons with disabilities face additional challenges in life that many of us take for granted that may restrict their access to these opportunities. For example, wheelchair users face obstacles in physical access of the venues as well as finding suitable exercise equipment that can accommodate their wheelchair. Persons with visual impairment find it difficult to exercise safely independently when they can't navigate options and monitor progress with visual feedback. Joggers with visual impairment often has a sighted guide training with them. Persons with autism and intellectual disabilities may have communication barriers that restrict access or the need and availability of caregivers to guide them may lessen their participation in these opportunities. To have a better understanding of the issues you can refer to the articles in the resource list appended below. We have also attached the infographics which provides an overview of disability landscape in Singapore.

Enhancing health, fitness and recreation for persons with disabilities and their families in the community is important in enabling their participation in the society. Solutions could also help contribute to better universal access to these opportunities hence enlarging your pool of potential users and beneficiaries for your application in the community.

Integrate an existing app with the Galaxy gear device. This should be an interactive actionable alerts/ notification on the watch (as by default the phone already supports 1 way notification to the watch). Developers should program in a way that enables 2 way interactivity.

90 seconds. No powerpoint slides are allowed.

8. So how the hell do we pitch?

Simple. You can pitch/demo through a visualizer (provided by us), your laptop, or through your mobile device.

9. Do we have to use at least one of the APIs available at the hackathon?

Yes, you will have to use at least one API and opt for at least one challenge at this hackathon.

10. Are we allowed to make a complete Game Design Document before the Hackathon start?

Yes. That should be fine. Planning is okay but no lines of code should be written prior to this hackathon

Opera Software


Since version 15, Opera for desktop now supports most Chrome extension APIs, in addition to its own Opera-specific extension APIs. Use the tutorials, sample extensions and API documentation on http://dev.opera.com/extension-docs/ as a starting point, and build an extension for the Opera browser for desktop. Judging criteria:

  • must provide a clear added value to the browsing experience
  • no external scripts are allowed: all scripts must be included inside the extension
  • good UX is important
  • pretty graphics are a plus
  • support for multiple languages is a plus

Shopify merchants are able to customize their Shopify store functionality with Shopify Apps (https://apps.shopify.com/), however, there are still several functionalities which merchants would love to have in order to grow their business in Asia.   • Uploading product images requires constant cropping and resizing on Shopify.
  • I am unable to readily translate my English language store to Asian languages such as Bahasa Indonesa, Melayu and Mandarin.
  • If I want to market my products on other marketplaces (e.g. Tokobagus, Gmarket), I have to upload them manual one by one. If only there is a tool which is integrated to these marketplaces.
